Area Manager & Senior Project Manager
Name and role
My name is Marian Rehus. I work as an Area Manager for Waterman Aspen and I am also seconded as a Senior Project Manager to Portsmouth City Council.
When did you join Waterman Aspen?
I joined Waterman Aspen in June 2018 as a Highway Engineer and was promoted to Area Manager in October 2019.
What does a typical day look like in your role or secondment?
My typical day starts with checking emails, both for Waterman Aspen as well as my secondment, making sure I prioritise my work throughout the day so that I have enough available time for both roles to attend meetings, which can be in person or online. I need to make sure there will be no clash between my tasks at Waterman Aspen and the secondment.
What training or education have you received at Waterman Aspen?
Since joining Waterman Aspen, I obtained qualifications as an EngTech and NEC4 Accredited Project Manager. Waterman Aspen have been very generous and put an effective training plan in place; one of the best I have come across within the industry. The senior management team is extremely supportive in staff development.
What’s the best thing about working for Waterman Aspen?
The best thing is the family feel – it is really fun working for the company. There is a lot of support from the company management who really listen to employees as well as clients. Waterman Aspen provides great opportunities for career development through the variety of roles and exposure to different aspects of engineering industry.
What would you say to someone interested in a career in your role?
My best advice is to think big, start small. Step out from the comfort zone and don’t be afraid. The support from everybody at Waterman Aspen is phenomenal, and the appreciation and recognition is great. I have never looked back or regretted my decision to start working for this great company. Waterman Aspen is not just a business; it is a family.
