What does a typical day look like in your role or secondment?

As a Senior Traffic Engineer responsible for the whole Keighley and Ilkley area of CBMDC, a typical day involves dealing with highways enquiries from the public/Councillors to determine if any improvements can be made, progressing Safer Roads schemes from design, through consultation, to implementation, progressing Traffic Regulation/Speed Limit Orders (TROs/SLOs), analysing accident data to determine future schemes, attending meetings with stakeholders to discuss highways issues within the district, maintaining Speed Indication Devices (SIDs) and carrying out site visits.

What’s the best thing about working for Waterman Aspen?

The work I am currently involved with is varied and interesting, giving me the chance to broaden my skills within a Public Sector environment. You also have the opportunity to move around the country should you so wish. My previous secondment was carrying out sign design with Warwick District Council. Plus, the Waterman Aspen social events are fantastic – especially the Christmas Party.

What would you say to someone interested in a career in your role?

Develop a wide range of skills to give yourself more work opportunities.
