Waterman Aspen’s North East team and Water North team joined forces with Sunderland City Council to complete a beach litter picking for their Waterman Aspen In The Community Day. An amazing day was had by all, with not a cloud in the sky!
The team headed to Roker Beach in Sunderland and with the tide out for the entire day, there was plenty of beach to cover. Starting at 9am and armed with a little picker and bin bag each, they began on the south side of the beach, making their way north towards Whitburn. They found all sorts of items on the beach, from clothing and footwear to fire brigade tape and beer bottles, just to name just a few items!
After a pit stop with a bacon roll and coffee, the team had collected so much that they needed heavy-duty refuse sacks! In total, they collected one bag each – which was five in total.
Overall, the day provided a great sense of accomplishment, helping to make the North East beach just that little bit nicer! Many members of the public offered their thanks and gratitude as well. Seaburn and Roker Beach are highlights of the local landscape, so passers-by were very grateful for the help in keeping it tidy.
A huge thank you and well done to John McEvoy, Graeme Barella, Sophie Dawson, Rhys Hamilton and Josh Brown – great work team!
