Tanweer Araf – Regional Director
What made you join WA? I didn’t know I needed a new career direction until I met with Waterman Aspen and was offered a role on the management team. Being given the responsibility and trust of the company to speak with clients and grow opportunities has been very rewarding. I was also able to continue in a technical secondment client role and grow professionally.
Have you been involved in education or training? On a personal note I have a regular progression review and plan in place identifying training needs and Waterman Aspen have fully supported me. I recently gained Chartered Manager status with the CMI with full support of the company. As Regional Director I carry out regular appraisals with staff to provide the platform for training needs to be discussed and actions taken. We proactively look to encourage professional development specific training requirements that may be requested or required to carry out client secondment tasks.
What secondments have been most interesting and why? I am in a long term secondment at Birmingham City Council. Delivering major highway infrastructure schemes as a Project Manager for Birmingham has been challenging and rewarding. Projects have included Metro Highway Works, Birmingham Cycle Revolution, and the CIHT Award winning Acocks Green Public Realm Scheme.
What are the best aspects of working for WA? The best aspect is that Waterman Aspen has always put my needs at the forefront and the career development has been second to none. Hard work and talent is also recognised and promotion opportunities are presented for staff to kick on and move up the ladder.
Why would you recommend working for WA? Flexibility, working part of an inclusive fun team, that challenge and push you. The family orientated nature of the company is a big plus where your voice is genuinely heard and valued, and the ability to help shape and grow Waterman Aspen.
