Graeme Barella – Highways Engineer
What made you join WA? At this stage of my career, the chance to work on a variety of projects, experience different office environments and receive first-rate professional support was too good of an opportunity to turn down.
What secondments have been most interesting and why? Whilst I am relatively new to the company, my time working with Sunderland City Council (SCC) has been both interesting and challenging. Waterman Aspen staff are highly respected in the workplace; allowing for the chance to receive a greater responsibility on projects that you may not get elsewhere. This has been evident with my time at SCC where I have taken the lead on managing budgets, producing option appraisals and developing detailed designs on numerous schemes.
What are the best aspects of working for WA? The flexibility available to me is perfect for my career progression. To achieve my goal of becoming a Chartered Engineer, I can tailor my experiences to tailor my development needs. It is also refreshing to know that the salary offered is very competitive for similar roles elsewhere… As well as the company car, staff socials and benefits scheme.
Why would you recommend working for WA? If you are a confident, approachable and hard working person looking for an opportunity to have flexible working conditions and a competitive salary, I see no better company to be a part of.
