Felix Kwateng – Senior Engineer

What made you join WA? I had been with my previous employer for over 10 years and I had reached a point in my career whereby I felt it was time for a change. Following conversations with former colleagues of that organisation I was convinced that WA would be the right organisation where I could progress my career further. I was offered a great opportunity by WA and within my current placement I work in a very interesting sector within the construction industry that provides a huge variety of challenges and has enable me to take my professional career to the next step.

Have you been involved in education or training? Since joining WA I have been involved in a variety of training courses as part of my continuing professional development which is of great importance to me and the company. I have had the opportunity to attend some project management courses such as PRINCE2 and also have had the opportunity to gain accreditation as an NEC3 Supervisor.

What secondments have been most interesting and why? I have only been on one secondment since joining WA and I am currently still in that secondment which is with Warwickshire County Council. I am based in the S278 team working on developer funded schemes and although the actual schemes tend to be not too dissimilar, working with a range of different developers is exciting and challenging at the same time. The team within Warwickshire has a good mix of individuals and everyone is helpful and supportive which makes it an enjoyable place to work. I have been able to learn and expand my knowledge within the industry over the last three years of being in this placement which is of benefit to me and the company.

What are the best aspects of working for WA? WA provides their staff with a great deal of flexibility. Although I have only been in one secondment and am enjoying it I know that if I needed to change my secondment in the event it came to an end or wanted a different experience the company would be supportive and ensure that they could deliver this for me. I also believe staff career development and training is a very important component in their business model and they ensure staff are able to develop skills and qualification which enables them to provide high level of service to their clients. Their social events are amongst some of the best out there, particularly the Christmas party!

Why would you recommend working for WA? WA are involved with a wide range of clients across a variety of different sectors. This presents staff with an abundance of opportunities in order for staff to gain experiences where required to meet their aspirations. Their salaries are competitive, and the management team are very supportive of staff in their placements and even in their personal life. This makes you feel appreciated within an organisation and I can hand on heart say that they genuinely look after their employees which is an important element of every successful organisation.
