Andrew ‘AJ’ Johnston – Assistant Engineer, Water
What made you join WA? It was clear from Waterman Aspen’s recruitment approach that, while my qualifications and experience were important, I would also be valued as a person and as a member of their team.
What secondments have been most interesting and why? I am currently on my first secondment with the Drainage Team for Kier Highways in Area 7. I am enjoying working on schemes that make best use of my existing skills, whilst also having the opportunity to expand my knowledge of drainage modelling, as well as gaining a deeper understanding of the highways industry on the whole.
What are the best aspects of working for WA? Aside from the company car and the stellar Christmas party, the best aspect of working for WA is that the company is invested in my personal professional development.
It is also reassuring to know that, should my situation change or a secondment not work out, there is the opportunity to move to a new position elsewhere.
Why would you recommend working for WA? WA will find a role that is right for you, whilst also providing the flexibility for change and the support needed for your own development.
