Project examples

Here’s a snapshot of just a few projects our people are involved in.

Project management on the Transpennine Route Upgrade East

Project management on the Transpennine Route Upgrade East

We are providing project management support within the bridges team, helping to improve delivery of bridge design milestone concepts. The team is now hitting 90%-100% of its milestones and targets, compared to 70% before the secondment started.

We are also assisting the client, Systra, with a £25 million detailed design bid for the next stage of the project – our colleagues providing added value above and beyond their original secondment role.

Gaining consents for construction on HS2

Gaining consents for construction on HS2

Before any construction can begin on major projects, a range of legal consents must be completed and approved – which requires specialist expertise, in this case provided by a Waterman Aspen secondment.

We have supplied a project manager who is coordinating the consents for an 80km section of the HS2 network, namely schedules 4 (highways), 17 (conditions of deemed planning permission), 18 (listed buildings), 19 (ancient monuments) and 33 (protective provisions).

Providing a niche skill to the rail industry

Providing a niche skill to the rail industry

The rail industry is unique in using a design software called Microstation, and people with the required skills are always in high demand – which is where we come in.

We have provided designers who are experienced in Microstation to work on design deliverables for HS2 and the East Coast Power Supply Upgrade between Peterborough and Scotland.

Specialist support for HS2 community engagement

Our people are working with HS2 to provide noise insulation to residents who live on the approach to Euston Station. Our NEC3-qualified project manager is overseeing all aspects of the package of works, including community engagement and reporting to the HS2 Change Panel.

The project will ultimately be the largest noise insulation package in Europe, running until 2031.
