This week, Liam Simpson an Assistant Bridge Engineer based in the North East visited Monkseaton Middle School to deliver a talk to students.
Monkseaton Middle School have set up a programme called ‘STEM Café’, where they invite various people from different professions to give a talk to students in years 7 and 8. Liam’s talk included an overview of Waterman Aspen and the highways sector, his day-to-day role as an Assistant Bridge Engineer and the different routes to a career in engineering.
Liam also listened to their First Lego League presentations, where children are tasked with solving real-world issues. For this particular task they had to develop ideas to tackle the HGV driver shortage and how to make the moving of goods more environmentally friendly – Liam gave them some fantastic feedback!
