Apprentice spotlight – meet Katy Roca

It’s National Apprenticeship Week, and we’re shining light on some of our own fantastic apprentices and their achievements.

Meet Katy Roca, our Senior HR & Projects Administrator, part of our Business Support team. Here’s what she had to say about her apprenticeship and the progress she’s made at Waterman Aspen:

What apprenticeship are you taking part in at Waterman Aspen?

“I’m currently undertaking a Data Literacy Apprenticeship with Multiverse”

What support have you received from Waterman Aspen throughout your apprenticeship?

“The management team have been really supportive, ensuring I have the time to undertake both the content delivery sessions and the agreed time to work on assignments.

I was actually told about the apprenticeship by my manager who thought it would be a good fit for me after discussing my career path in my personal progression review.

WA have been really proactive in reaching out to me with opportunities to put my learning to good use, involving me in projects that I can both add value to and also enable me to gain further experience in my chosen specialism.”

What are the benefits of completing an apprenticeship while working at the same time?

“Being in a working environment while studying allows me to apply what I’ve learned immediately in live business situations. This also enables me to add an extra layer of insight to my course content.

The apprenticeship has allowed me to undertake additional learning without detriment to my work/life balance or my income. Without WA supporting me on my learning journey, I would not have been able to afford to branch out into this field; something I have only recently discovered a passion for.”

What are your career aspirations once your apprenticeship is completed?

“After completing my apprenticeship, I initially aspire to upskill in more advanced techniques for data analysis. Hopefully this will organically lead to a role where I can use these skills to analyse trends and gain insight to drive business decisions.”
