Apprentice spotlight – meet Caitlin Sutherland

Caitlin Sutherland - Waterman Aspen apprentice

It’s National Apprenticeship Week, and we’re shining light on some of our own fantastic apprentices and their achievements.

Meet Caitlin Sutherland, an Assistant Apprentice Engineer in our South team who joined us in April 2022. Here’s what she had to say about her apprenticeship and the progress she’s made at Waterman Aspen:

What apprenticeship are you taking part in at Waterman Aspen?

“I am currently in my final year at Kingston University London studying Civil and Infrastructure Engineering BEng, alongside getting my incorporated engineering title IEng.”

What support have you received from Waterman Aspen throughout your apprenticeship?

“Throughout my time at Waterman Aspen, I have received a massive amount of support and help with looking at assignments, preparing for my IEng, and reviews on my dissertation.”

What are the benefits of completing an apprenticeship while working at the same time?

“In my eyes, the benefits of studying and working are that I am gaining real-world experience and can apply the elements I learn to the work I complete day-to-day. I feel like this puts me in a really good position, along with lots of opportunities at an early stage of my career.”

What are your career aspirations once your apprenticeship is completed?

“In the long term, I am aiming to get my chartered engineer title and to gain more experience in other elements of engineering.”
