West Midlands team run sessions at Refugee & Migrant Centre

This week, some of our colleagues in the West Midlands used their Waterman Aspen In The Community Day to volunteer at the Refugee & Migrant Centre (RMC) in Wolverhampton. Over the course of November, the West Midlands team is running a weekly employability course from our Birmingham office. This includes CV workshops, interview preparation, and job application support to refugees and migrants who have Home Office right to work status in the UK and use their skills and experience to kickstart their careers.

The RMC is an award-winning charity that welcomes and empowers asylum seekers, refugees and other migrants to rebuild their lives and achieve their potential. The charity assists over 200 people each day including families, victims of trafficking, modern slavery, unaccompanied children and those escaping conflict zones from around the world. RMC’s mission is to “assist refugees and migrants through crisis and disadvantage, by removing barriers to their integration and enabling them to become equal citizens”.

This week, our colleagues Conchita Munar, Mohammed Sarfraz, Rajpreet Mander, and Tanweer Araf spent time helping refugees from Afghanistan who had varied professional backgrounds in teaching, law, accountancy and dentistry.

“The RMC and the fantastic work they do is vital in ensuring people who come over from war torn countries are able to integrate into society and are looked after. When we started talking to the RMC about how Waterman Aspen could support them, we jumped at the opportunity that would enable our staff to give their time to make a real difference to people’s lives and help our local communities. For Waterman Aspen to be able to give staff time to help contribute towards rebuilding refugees and migrants lives and empowering them to fulfil their potential is fantastic and proud initiative to be a part of.”
