Steve Hollinworth – 500 miles in 5 weeks for Mission 5000

Steve Hollinworth set a target far beyond anyone else within Waterman Aspen for his Mission 5000 challenge. Here he shares his inspiration for raising money for such a worthwhile cause.

“As a rugby fan it was a privilege to see the Scottish International Doddie Weir play. He was a huge physical and competitive presence on the field, but a kind and generous man in the bar afterwards. A true sporting hero in every sense. So it was truly saddening to see such a man struck down by such a debilitating disease as MND.

When Waterman Aspen announced that they would do a challenge for MND, I felt that I wanted to do something to honour Doddie and all those suffering with MND.

In the last 5-weeks I have set out to walk or run 500 miles and to raise £500.

Some days it hasn’t been easy particularly after a long day at work to go out in the dark and the wind and the rain, but on other occasions it has been truly marvelous to see the sunsetting on Lincoln cathedral or wildlife in the fields surrounding the city.

As the challenge comes to an end I’m pleased to have reached my target.”

We thank Steve for his truly amazing efforts with this challenge. We have smashed our target for fundraising and more money keeps coming in. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far. There is still time to donate if you haven’t already.
