The prestigious West Midlands CIHT Award is designed to encourage the development of the most innovative highways and transportation projects in the region. Each year, an independent panel judge projects worth over 5 million against a range of criteria including innovation, benefits to end users and long term sustainability.
The CIHT award not only recognises excellence in infrastructure design but also the ingenuity and outstanding efforts of the teams involved. The overall performance of project teams are assessed throughout all stages of the project life cycle, from concept to completion against deadlines, budgets, planning and compliance.
About the award winning Highways and Transportation Project
This years winner of the CIHT Best Large Projects accolade was the M6 Birmingham Box Phase 3: Smart Motorway, a pioneering highways and transportation scheme designed to alleviate congestion between junctions 5 and 8 on the M6 utilising the latest technology to vary speed limits and vary use of the hard shoulder during peak traffic flow in real time.
Smart Motorways are part of an exciting, new Highways Agency initiative to replace managed motorways and they are being rolled out all across the UK. Find out more here.
