The Highways Agency used the QMB on the Princess Parkway bridge renovation scheme.
The QMB machine moves temporary concrete barriers using a system of rollers.
The 600m of barrier at Princess Parkway were moved each evening to give working space on the bridge leaving just one lane for traffic.
The concrete barrier gives good solid protection to the site workers and allows enough space to be able to safely undertake the repair work.
Before the morning peak hour the barriers are moved back again to leave two lanes for traffic. Each operation takes about 15 minutes with additional works to change the approach signs and cones. Use of the QMB provided a solution to this challenging traffic management problem.
Without the QMB, the queues were predicted to have extended 17 miles around the M60 at peak times.
