Since our formation in the late 1980’s Waterman Aspen has provided technical and professional staff to support public sector infrastructure projects around the UK. Public sector work historically accounted for a significant proportion of our business and we are still actively involved working for Local Authorities, the Highways Agency and Environment Agency, Transport for London and Transport Scotland.

Although spending cuts are impacting on Public Sector requirements Waterman Aspen can help provide short term specialist skills and temporary staff to ensure that programmes are delivered. Where neighbouring Local Authorities link up in shared service arrangements we are able to provide flexible teams or front line staff to help with reducing costs. We look forward to a continued strong relationship with Public Sector organisations, helping them fulfil staffing requirements in the challenging times ahead.

In the Midlands Waterman Aspen will act as sub-consultant to URS/Scott Wilson who has been appointed by the Midlands Highway Alliance under a new four year Professional Services Partnership contract – see news. Waterman Aspen will provide temporary staff for the design and supervision of highway, civil and municipal engineering works.  The new contract started in April 2011 and replaces the award-winning 3 Counties Alliance Partnership between Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire which identified £1.1 million efficiency savings for the authorities.

In more than 70 other Local Authorities Waterman Aspen staff provide specialist support as well as top up resources to core services including the design of local highways schemes and the management of social housing programmes. We provide interim support in the implementation of new legislation including the Flood and Water Management Act 2011 where we are carrying out preliminary flood risk assessments and advising on the requirements for Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS).

Our ability to add value stems from our commitment to only recruiting suitably qualified, high calibre staff with the experience and expertise to meet our clients’ requirements.
