The bypass is part of major improvements to relieve congestion on the A46 at the bottleneck junction 15 of the M40. Both long distance and local traffic using the new bypass will benefit from improved journey times and safety thanks to a new 1.8-mile (2.85km) dual carriageway which will remove up to 40 per cent of traffic away from the busy junction where the A46 meets the M40 motorway.
-
By keeping through traffic separate from M40 J15, it is expected there will be a reduction in accidents. Phase 1 of the project was the A46 bypass of junction 15.
-
Phase 2 of the work, which includes motorway slip road improvements and widening and upgrading the existing roundabout at junction 15, will further reduce congestion at this busy junction.
-
Longbridge Bypass is a major part of the £77m M40 Junction 15 improvement scheme, being built with £71m of Government funding. The scheme includes an entirely new bridge spanning 120 metres across the motorway, a new roundabout, three new bridges over roads and three stream crossings, a new drainage system, signage, lighting, plus diverting brooks and streams.
