vbaljit – city council secondment
baljit

When did you join WA? November 1996.
Why did you join? A colleague and friend of Baljit applied for a role within Aspen Associates, so Baljit went along to the interview also. He was offered a job with a competitive package and accepted. Baljit almost became a policeman but decided to continue with engineering and to take up the role with Aspen Associates.
Current secondment:
Baljit has spent the last few years seconded to a City Council. He was originally in design for lighting but has now progressed to a project leader for street lighting design. There are quite a few WA employees in the team also. The work is varied and broken down into smaller chunks so that each project can be seen from start to finish, giving responsibility for budget management also. The role is ever changing and evolving and the PFI process means that something is always happening.
Good bits:
Baljit worked for WA when it was Aspen Associates and he has seen such changes since then. Management have remained approachable and issues are easily discussed. Secondment gave Baljit the confidence to experience new things and meet new people, make friends and adapt into new roles with ease.
Future plans:
increase skills and develop these skills. He is happy with the company and would like to progress within the company, with possible plans to be considered for a management role.

vcourtney – city council secondment
courtney

When did you join WA? September 2008.
Why did you join? I worked for another company for 7 years and was told by a friend about the benefits of working for Waterman Aspen. It interested me as I felt that I was in need of a bigger challenge.
Current Secondment: My secondment is at a large City Council, which is, ironically; where I worked 7 years earlier! I am currently working in street lighting design with other WA employees doing CAD design, site visits and raising orders.
Good bits
: I enjoy working at the council and using my own initiative in my role. The benefits are also a good part of working for WA, as well as the social events, which give me the opportunity to meet with other WA employees and management.
Future Plans: I will be completing my BTEC in Civil Engineering later this year, and hope to progress onto the HNC course. I would also like to continue learning new skills and improving my abilities within Waterman
.
