consultant waste planner, london

We are looking for permanent candidates to apply for a role as a Consultant Waste Planner within our specialist waste permitting and planning team based in our London office.

We specialise in the preparation of planning applications and environmental permit applications for a range of waste management activities, typically not requiring the preparation of an Environmental Statement.  Due to a consistent increase in commissions we are now in a position to recruit a consultant to assist primarily in the preparation of planning applications.  The successful applicant will also be expected to contribute to linked environmental permit applications made to the Environment Agency.

There is also an opportunity for the right candidate (subject to qualifications and/or relevant experience) to develop one or more environmental consultancy specialisms within the role (e.g. contaminated land, ecology, noise). You will therefore be expected to be equipped with a competent waste planning skill, experience of environmental permitting skill and an aptitude and interest in a specialism.

The candidate we are looking for should ideally have the following qualifications and/or proven skills

  • A graduate of an RTPI accredited bachelor or masters degree course with experience
  • OR significant waste management or environmental impact assessment content;
  • experience, ideally gained in a waste planning authority or in a planning consultancy with waste specialism;
  • Have seen first-hand a range of operational waste management facilities and therefore be able to demonstrate knowledge of the potential negative impacts of such facilities (e.g. potential nuisance or pollution potential);
  • Have the ability to identify and appraise the local development plan to prepare policy appraisals;
  • Have an understanding of specific waste planning policy issues such as “need”, “alternative site assessment” and “Best Practicable Environmental Option”;
  • Want to develop project management and co-ordination skills to bring together the findings of specific technical studies into supporting statements; and
  • Want to work as part of a multidisciplinary environmental consultancy team.

In return Waterman offer a competitive salary and flexible benefits package.  The candidate does need to have good written and spoken English to fulfil the criteria of the role.

Waterman Group is an Equal Opportunities employer.
