A86 slope stabilisation

client - transport scotland

  • The project was developed after partial embankment failure due to wash out of fines/debris slide.
  • Remedial work has involved re-profiling part of the slope to remove outcrop of unstable material, installation of slope drainage, then rock stabilisation.
  • The surface has been further stabilised with 'Geocoir' matting and sown with grass seed mix.
  • Once the slope was stabilised, sink holes near the top that would have been unsafe to reach by tracked excavators were unfilled using a mobile crane and hopper standing on the road below.
  • This avoided disturbing the newly established slope.
  • Works were carried out by the Trunk Road Operating Company.
